Project Bags! A great idea from a friend.

Dear readers,

I was in a friend's sewing room studio in DC last winter.  She had the best idea.  She used XL bags to store all the things involving a project -- the fashion fabric (cut or uncut), the pattern, and all the notions and findings needed.
I thought what a fantastic idea.  So, I bagged up my next ten projects with GLAD XL bags (from Lowe's), minus any notions or findings (I am not THAT organized).   I think this will keep me on track a little better  -- I tend to daudle when I sew.    And, it clears out my stash for more fabric:)

Now, if I can just figure out where to store these bags. . .

Do you keep project boxes or bags, or have some other method for indicating your fabric is for a special project?  I'd love to hear.

Dear Readers, Ok, I'm only two weeks late on the publishing of this finished dress.  My second, and it's a much better fit.  I worked hard on the bodice with the princess seams. Here's the back view - which is a better fit than what this picture suggests. '' Whew!  Boy I need a haircut.   I've reviewed this pattern before so, here we go: What I liked:  Fun, easy, princess-seam pattern with retro good looks in a variety of styles.  I love the two-tone - which Eugenia ingeniously concocted in one of her dresses.  Great fit.  I added the selvage flowers and pockets which match the bodice. . .  Peek-a-boo  Flowers - my big design element. Cuffed Pants Hem Tutorial

I bought some great pants from Ann Taylor recently, a rayon/cotton/spandex blend herringbone fully lined in poly, with cuffed hems.  For $40, thank you additional 40% off clearance rack. When taking them apart to re-hem, I really liked the way they did it, so here for your future assistance (or total confusion, we'll see) is the method.  This creates a 1 3/4" cuff, I'm sure you could modify the numbers to make it wider or narrower but I'll leave the math to you. (If you're starting with already hemmed pants, you need to rip out all the previous stitching.  Yes it's a pain, just get it over with and then pretend it didn't happen.) 1.  You need a 3" hem allowance.  That means 3 inches of fabric below where you want the pants to stop.  Easiest way to figure this out is measure the inseam (inside leg seam from crotch to hem) on a pair of pants that is the length you want.  If you don't have any to measure, fold up a hem and secure with pins, then try...

Review of Free Craftsy Class on Mastering Zipper Techniques

Dear readers, I'm stuck in bed (mostly) convalescing from minor foot surgery.  So, I cannot sew, or really do anything sitting yet - but what I can do:  finally watch my Craftsy classes while I put off finishing knitting projects! First one up - a class featuring Sunni from A Fashionable Stitch  -  on Mastering Zipper Techniques.  I previously bought gorgeous sewing pressing hams from her and love them still. The class was free at Craftsy Online Classes   - I wasn't totally sure what I would learn from the class at first.  I am already signed up for the zipper class at ASG in Arlington this summer.  But I was confounded at the amount of knowledge I gained.  And no, I am not on percocet. The highlights: 1)  Sunni uses a extremely fine non-woven fusible to interface her all three zipper techniques.
